I need help from the computer people please...
My girlfriend wants to be able to play WoW at the same time I play on my laptop. I already have another account but i need another computer.
I have a desktop that the motherboard went wonky on, it's an ASUS A7V8X. It said that my hard drive was corrupt, then another drive that I know is good was corrupt, then a third. I tried it with several drives, it would almost boot with a win7 disc, then it kept re-starting. I think it's a BIOS issue but I am stuck. I'd like to be able to fix it, but realistically I won't. I am thinking about buying a new motherboard/processor combo because having done some research I don't think my old Athlon chip will work with any new board now. I will probably have to pick up some new RAM because the DDR PC333 stuff I have now probably won't work with a new combo. I have a 400W power supply in my tower, it's pretty roomy and has lots of screw configurations so I think I can use that one still. I also have a crappy old Gforce 5200 video card (AGP) that I will want to use until i can get a new one. I played WoW on it and know it's bearable. Can anyone make recommendations toward a solution? I'd like to not spend more than $200 to complete this thing, but I'm a little flexible. I already have the monitor, keyboard, mouse etc so it's just the guts I am in need of. I used to be pretty knowledgeable about this stuff, it's sad how much changes when you don't build a system in a couple of years Cliffs: HALP! |

If you are planning on playing the expansions of WoW, that AGP card isn't going to cut it. The new lands have massive textures, and the AGP cards just can't deal with it.

She's going to have to get to 80 first and that will give me time to buy another card. |

the specs you listed are old and slow at best. if you need to invest any money into trying to put a POS machine together, you're better off investing that money into a new better machine. |

Meh, from the research I have been doing the AGP card won't even work with a new board. But onboard graphics cards now will be better than my 5200.

AGP is dead and buried. Move on, you recluse.
